Great ending to the story. I LOVE the idea of Max taking off the mask and pretending that he helped Pink Pussycat capture the criminals. Allowing him to smugly walk away and even having the cop think he's a great guy makes him an even bigger villain and sets the stage nicely for their next encounter.
